Tax Resources

We do not offer tax advice and cannot provide answers about individual tax returns.

Federal and New York State 2023 Income Tax forms and instructions will be at the Library when they become available, while supplies last. As of February 1, the Library has IRS 1040 and 1040 SR forms and instruction booklets (including in Spanish); we hope to have NY State tax forms by mid-February. We recommend calling the reference desk before making the trip to be sure we have the forms on hand.
The Reference Desk staff will be happy to direct you to online forms, electronic filing options and other tax resources. Forms found online can printed here at the Library at the cost of 20 cents a page.

Income Tax Preparation Assistance: The AARP Tax-Aide Locator will help you find the free income tax preparation assistance site nearest you, or one that fits your schedule. There is a resource in Elmira at the Bethany Lutheran Church at 256 S Walnut St in Elmira. Their hours are M-Th from 11 AM to 4 PM. You must make an appointment for assistance; call to make an appointment at (607) 735-2424.

There are other in-person resources available, but they are all 40+ miles or more from Corning. You can download a PDF list of those locations here.

The United Way offers tax filing assistance via https://myfreetaxes.com/. They have online and real-person assistance, though the real people are online.
