The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende will be reviewed by Ristiina Wigg

The Japanese Lover is a tender story that explores issues of race and identity, abandonment and reconciliation, and centers on two women: elderly, enigmatic Alma and her caretaker, the younger, devoted Irina, who is hiding a dark past.

Ristiina Wigg has lived in Corning, NY for 18 years. She has a BA from Oakland University, a BFA from Alfred University and a MSLS from the University of Michigan. She has worked at the Mid-Hudson Library system and the Southern Tier Library System, retiring in 2013. Her interests lie in reading, political history of the last 50 years, gardening, printing etchings, and fusing glass. Wigg’s is a devoted fan of audiobooks which are available for free through OverDrive, a service provided by your local library.

Each year in January and February, the Friends of the Southeast Steuben County Library present a lunchtime series of book talks featuring local speakers reviewing notable new works of fiction and nonfiction. Book talks are held on Wednesdays at the Southeast Steuben County Library’s Laura Beer Community Room from 12:10 -1 p.m. The talks are open to the general public and free of charge. Beverages are provided and attendees are invited to bring a bagged lunch.
