Being Mortal brings to light an array of concepts involving death, mortality, aging, and terminal illness. Gawande includes extensive research and chronicles the stories of his patients, other doctors’ patients, and his own family members. The resulting book informs readers about many circumstances and scenarios that can help people find the best route through their or their family members’ final days, months, or years…

Bob Walker has lived in Corning, NY for 24 years. He has a BA in Math and a MSEE. His background is in engineering where he has worked with engineering of semiconductors, optical fiber and glass products.

Each year in January and February, the Friends of the Southeast Steuben County Library present a lunchtime series of book talks featuring local speakers reviewing notable new works of fiction and nonfiction. Book talks are held on Wednesdays at the Southeast Steuben County Library’s Laura Beer Community Room from 12:10 -1 p.m. The talks are open to the general public and free of charge. Beverages are provided and attendees are invited to bring a bagged lunch.
