Finding Voice: Reflections from 9/11

Where were you on 9/11? Where are you now?We will hear personal reflections and welcome your own comments and recollections.

This open forum will begin with a panel local and national anti-war activists including, Mary Anne Grady Flores from Upstate Drone Action , Ariel Gold, CODEPINK’s Middle East’s campaign director, Colleen Boland retired White House National Space Councilmember and military veteran, and Hoor Arifi, Afghan student at United World College of the Adriatic who will speak about experiences growing up in Afghanistan post- 9/11.

Following this discussion will be an open mic forum for questions, concerns or observations related to this topic.

Hoor Arifi will speak about his experiences as child in in Afghanistan on 9/11 and the following war in Afghanistan, including living through explosions. Hoor Arifi will join us from United World College of the Adriatic via Skype.

Colleen Boland is a retired military veteran who served her country for more than seventeen years in the Army and Air Force. She will speak about her experiences serving in the military in relationship to the current political climate.

Mary Anne Grady Flores will speak about her non-violent direct action work with Upstate Drone Action (UDA) which was co-founded by the Ithaca Catholic Worker.

Ariel Gold will speak about her work with CODEPINK, a peace organization started after 9/11,  led by women, in opposition to the Iraq War. Ariel is CODEPINK’s Middle East campaign director.

The Finding Voice open forum series is designed to be a safe space for all voices. This series is co-hosted by the League of Women Voters of Steuben County & The Southeast Steuben County Library.
