Applications for the Nancy Doutt and Friends of the Library Scholarship are due today, May 3, 2017.

This year, two scholarships of $600 each will again be awarded to two library patrons entering a college, university, institute, vocational or trade school as a freshman, to begin a post-secondary course of study.

Application forms are available at the Southeast Steuben County Library in Corning, at the Library’s Circulation Desk, and here at the links below. Application forms have also been sent to local high school Guidance Offices as well as other educational facilities. Completed forms must be submitted by May 3, 2017.

In 2010 the Southeast Steuben County Library was one of several recipients of a very generous bequest by an anonymous donor. It is known that the donor shared the Library’s vision of a commitment to lifelong learning. The Trustees of the Library, therefore, decided to use a small portion of the bequest to fund an annual honorary scholarship to assist two library patrons who are embarking on a post-secondary education.

The Trustees, in 2011, chose to honor the Friends of the Library for their many years of work in support of the Library and its mission.  As the majority of that support has come from the proceeds of the bi-annual Book Sales, they wished to also recognize the efforts of one individual, whose tireless work stood out above the considerable efforts of many others.

The scholarship, named The Nancy Doutt and Friends of the Southeast Steuben County Library Honorary Scholarship, was first awarded to two students in June of 2011, and each June thereafter.
