10—11 am  What Editors Look For
with Patrick Thomas
What do editors want? How does a writer submit stories to magazine and anthology editors? How can a writer find markets to submit stories to? Patrick Thomas will share his experiences as a fiction magazine editor as well as what he has learned by editing anthologies. Patrick has had stories published in over four dozen magazines and more than fifty anthologies. He is the author of the Murphy’s Lore series, Mystic Investigators, and Fairy With a Gun, also stories of the DMA, The 142nd Starborne, Hell’s Detective, The Infinite Jester and the Dear Cthulhu syndicated column. 11 am—Noon  Plotting or Pantsing Your Novel?
with Christy Jackson Nicholas and Michelle Wells
Christy will cover different ways to plot your novel, including the snowflake method, beat sheets, and mind-maps. Michelle will cover ‘pantsing’ your way through a novel using minimal plotting, with an overview of using scenes and sequels.
Christy writes historical fantasy novels, mostly set in Ireland. Don’t miss information on Celtic myth and history, as well as practical travel planning tips, and hidden places, in her travel books. More at http://greendragonartist.com/
Michelle runs the Corning Area Writer’s Group and was recently published in The Sexuality Poems from Foothills Publishing. She is currently working on a dystopian science fiction.

Noon—12:30 pm Pitch Your Book
Have an elevator pitch ready for your book— tell the group what you write and pitch any books you have already written!

12:30—2:00 pm Lunch and Networking
Lunch will be provided. Browse books authors have for sale and connect with other writers.

2:00—3:00 pm From Writing to Publishing
with Leslie Daniels
Leslie Daniels, a writer and a veteran of publishing, will talk about the journey a writer makes from his or her own ideas for stories to publication. Leslie’s book, Cleaning Nabokov’s House, is under option for film and has been published in translation in four languages. Her stories and essays have appeared in multiple publications. Her career includes a long stint as a literary agent in NYC and five years as the fiction editor of Green Mountains Review. Daniels teaches writing at the Spalding University MFA program. She lives in Ithaca, New York.

3:00—4:00 pm Edit Your Author Bio
with Karen Biesanz
This workshop will focus on editing as an opportunity to better communicate meaning to readers. Write a few paragraphs, learn some editing tips, and practice editing skills in this low-pressure workshop. Karen learned at an early age that she enjoyed writing better than speaking. She has always delighted in playing with words – teaching different subjects and co-authoring several publications.
